Instructions to make Caramel Pie:
  1. Remove label from can. Stand can in a tall pan and cover well with water.
  2. Bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce to medium, cover and let boil for 2 1/2 hours. Use CAUTION..contents under pressure.
  3. Remove can with tongs and let sit on a towel for ten minutes. Open CAREFULLY as it will ooze or squirt! (Stand back a little and watch your hands.)
  4. Spread in pie crust and let chill in the freezer for two hours. Then add whipped topping. Keep pie cold. I even like it right out of the freezer.

Once you've made your caramel filling, pour it into the prepared pie crust, cover with a piece of plastic wrap pressed to the top of the pie and refrigerate for a few hours to allow the caramel filling to firm. Fit the dough into the pie plate and flute the edges as desired. Line the bottom and sides of the pastry with parchment paper or foil. Scrape the caramel filling into the pie crust, smoothing the top. Spray a sheet of plastic wrap with vegetable oil spray and cover the pie.
